Rock salt has a lower freezing point than water. By spreading rock salt onto a road, path or driveway, when vehicles or pedestrians move over it, the crystals crush and spread across the ice. This causes a reaction between the water molecules and rock salt which prevents ice developing. Our range includes standard brown rock salt and white rock salt which are suitable for use in a range of locations.

Brown or white rock salt?

Brown salt is best suited for spreading across large areas such as open public spaces and is a more cost effective option in large volumes. We recommend white rock salt if you want to reduce the amount of residue to be trodden into carpets in buildings and vehicles.
